Before We Get Into It

What this guide actually covers

Montego Bay isn't hiding from anybody. It's Jamaica's second-largest city and its tourism capital — the place reggae-soaked beach vacations, Blue Mountain coffee, and “one love” bumper stickers actually come from. Sangster International sits practically on top of the resort strip, the Hip Strip keeps nightlife walkable, and Rose Hall's cluster of big-name resorts gives you more all-inclusive options than you can realistically compare in one sitting.

Section 1 — Best Time to Visit

Quick answer

Mid-December through April is the sweet spot. It's Jamaica's dry season, with sunshine, lower humidity, and the best odds of a rain-free week — which also makes it peak season, so expect higher resort rates and a livelier (read: more crowded) Hip Strip. Christmas week and the weeks around Easter are the most expensive stretches of the entire year.

From Section 2 — Luxury Accommodations.

"Book a room in the villa section if you want a private pool without paying full villa-rental prices."
